It is a good introductory book, but it is an 88 book page, so not a lot of all the possible available features are covered. After doing this the code will work without any other changes. And remove and add again the reference to the WinJS 1.0 at the project level, and you are done. One thing, the downloaded code will not work as it is with the Visual Studio 2012 RTM, but the code is ok, just the references of the book point to the WinJS.0.6 runtime (beta), so change the references to be WinJS.1.0 on each. Also how to set the app tiles and update them, and how to react to a Windows Charms Search and events. You will learn how to do the layout, how to hook it with javascript and html events, MS even created something very similar to jQuery to query the DOM. The book takes you step by step creating a simple Grocery List app.
